This week’s TV: “Untamed,” “Miley Cyrus: Something Beautiful,” and more

MLB All-Star Game, Tuesday at 8 p.m. on Fox and streaming on Fubo: The top players in the American League and the National League square off, showcasing the best of the best pitchers, sluggers, and fielders. The high-level competition transcends team loyalties for one night of the year. Garrett Crochet, Aroldis Chapman, and Alex Bregman represent the Red Sox alongside such talents as the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani and the Yankees’ Aaron Judge, among many other superstars.

“Miley Cyrus: Something Beautiful,” Wednesday on Disney+: Cyrus performed and co-created the 55-minute, 13-song filmed pop opera, which she has said was inspired by Pink Floyd’s “The Wall.” The so-called “visual album” premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last June, where the singer-songwriter also performed portions of the song cycle live. The album has gotten positive buzz, with Rolling Stone saying “she’s aiming higher than ever, with her most ambitious and introspective tunes,” and includes the lead single “End of the World,” as well as “Easy Lover.”

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” season 3, Thursday on Paramount+: The highly successful prequel continues to go boldly, although maybe not beyond where its classic forebears have gone before. The amiable crew serves under Captain Christopher Pike (an anchoring Anson Mount), along with Ethan Peck as a younger Spock, and the ever-delightful Carol Kane as the mercurial alien Pelia. The 10-episode third season opens in combat mode, with a battle against the terrifying Gorn, an alien species first introduced in the original series episode, “Arena.” Cast guests in season 3 include Patton Oswalt, Rhys Darby, and Paul Wesley returning as a younger, greener James T. Kirk.

“Billy Joel: And So It Goes,” Friday on HBO Max: The Piano Man gets the two-part documentary treatment from veteran nonfiction directors Susan Lacy and Jessica Levin (“Jane Fonda in Five Acts”). New interviews were completed. Obscure concert footage unearthed. Home movies rediscovered. A portrait emerges of a complicated man with downtown roots who once aspired to hooking up with an uptown girl. His marriage to that dream woman, model Christie Brinkley, didn’t last forever, but the song and his solo career rocked on. The 76-year-old recently canceled his concert tour through July 2026 due to a normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) diagnosis.

“Zarna Garg: Practical People Win,” Friday on Hulu: Comedy has become king at Hulu, where the Hularious platform offers new monthly stand-up specials. Past talent has included Bill Burr, Jim Gaffigan, and Atsuko Okatsuka. July features Zarna Garg, the 50-year-old married comedian and screenwriter. In her new hourlong stand-up special, Garg riffs on modern life and her extended family, joking that the younger generation wants to follow their bliss. “No,” she corrects, “you will monetize your misery.”

Thelma Adams is a cultural critic and the author of the best-selling historical novel “The Last Woman Standing,” about Josephine Marcus, the Jewish wife of Wyatt Earp.
