Fox Sports analyst Robert Griffin III is having a tough month.
Griffin recently sparked controversy by commenting on social media about a perceived rivalry between WNBA All-Stars Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark. It began when Griffin quote-tweeted a racist graphic depicting Angel Reese. While condemning the racism, he also stated that someone from Reese’s “inner circle” told him she “hates” Clark.
Reese denied these claims on social media, and her mother also refuted Griffin’s statement.
Many, including ESPN analyst Ryan Clark, criticized Griffin for reposting the racist image and for exploiting the narrative for engagement, rather than focusing on denouncing the racism itself.
Well, Brandon London, the ex-Giants practice squad member and owner of a Super Bowl ring from Super Bowl XLII, ripped Griffin for over two minutes like some of Griffin’s counterparts in sports media. However, there is something more brutal about the ex-wide receiver’s take.
“I will say this in the most respectful way I can, but can someone tell RG3 to shut the f–k up when it comes to talking about Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark,” London said via New York Post Sports. “You’re aura farming, bro. … And we are tired of the race-baiting, or you thinking that you are about to save the world or save sports from racism by constantly bringing up Angel Reese’s name.
“What did this girl do to you, bro? She’s like 20-something years old and you continue to tweet about her and talk about her. For what?”
But London, who ultimately attacked Griffin’s credibility, didn’t stop there.
“You say … someone close to Angel Reese called you and told you that Angel Reese hates Caitlin Clark because of all the media attention that Caitlin Clark gets. Angel Reese has called cap on that. Angel Reese’s mom has called you out on that,” London said. “So either you pull receipts and drop someone’s name, address, Twitter handle, I don’t care. Either you … show us, or bro, just be quiet.”
Whether you agree with London or not, one thing is clear: Griffin gets under folks’ skin, including his colleagues who are stepping all over each other to call the provocative analyst and Heisman Trophy-winner out.
“The race-baiting is getting on our nerves,” London said. “And I’m calling you out for it because you are the one that is fueling the flames, you’re the one that is gaslighting. And then don’t try to be some sort of victim because ‘people come at you and you’re [just] giving your opinion.’ Stop that, man.”
An undrafted free agent from UMass who spent the Giants’ 2007-08 Super Bowl season on the practice squad, London made the Dolphins’ roster in 2008 after being waived by the Giants at the start of the season. He played in his only NFL games (14) that season.
