UNC baseball outfielder Kane Kepley drafted with the 56th pick by the Chicago Cubs in the 2025 MLB Draft –

Junior outfielder Kane Kepley was taken with the 56th pick by the Chicago Cubs Sunday night in the 2025 MLB Draft. 

Kepley played one season with the Diamond Heels after transferring from Liberty University, where he quickly became an impact player, cementing his role as the leadoff hitter. 

The junior center fielder was a second team All-ACC selection after finishing fourth in the country with 45 stolen bases, the third most in UNC baseball history. During the 2025 season, Kepley led the Tar Heels with a .451 on-base percentage. Kepley also finished first on the team with seven triples, tied for the seventh best mark in the country. 

In center field, Kepley showed off his defensive prowess, recording zero errors last year. During his only season with the Tar Heels, Kepley recorded 68 hits and finished with a .291 batting average.
