It’s just gone 3pm here in the UK, and here’s everything you need to know.
Unless he’s running late, Trump is now sitting down now with NATO chief Mark Rutte for a behind-closed-doors meeting.
The US president has promised a “major statement” on Russia today.
A report from the US suggested it would be a new arms deal with Ukraine.
It comes as Trump has been sounding increasingly fed up and put out by Vladimir Putin in recent weeks – after the two drew noticeably closer during the early parts of Trump’s second term.
There are a number of moving parts to any potential deal, however.
Trump has already said he will give Patriot defence missile systems to Ukraine – by way of selling them via Europe, see our 14.07 post for more.
One crucial question is whether the US president will start to sell offensive weaponry too.
This would be a marked about-face from the dressing down Trump gave Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the White House months ago.
It would give Ukraine the ability to strike Russia after a number of months in which Moscow has made creeping progress on the frontline.
Germany is playing a crucial role today as well.
Berlin’s defence minister is in Washington, and an official in government said they were growing cautiously optimistic.
Also in Washington is the NATO chief.
Known for calling Trump “daddy” during their last meeting, Rutte’s presence may also help push forward any possible deal.
And another important moving part is Keith Kellogg – Trump’s special envoy.
He is in Kyiv today, where he’s met with Zelenskyy.
The Kremlin seemingly tried to downplay the importance of any potential weapons deal.
Elsewhere, overnight strikes on Ukraine continued, with Russia killing at least five people.
