PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — After seeing temperatures soar into the mid-90s on Sunday, Monday brings a slight reprieve before another big warm-up.
WEATHER | LATEST STORM TRACKER 2 FORECAST
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory starting at Noon on Tuesday and will go through 10 p.m. on Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to approach triple digits Wednesday afternoon.
“The ridge of high pressure will move back east, and we begin to really warm up Tuesday and Wednesday,” Storm Tracker 2 Meteorologist Rhonda Shelby said.
“Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke,” NWS Portland said in its advisory message.
In addition to the heat, the fire risk is also increasing. Elevated and Critical Fire Weather conditions exist east of the Cascades.
The Storm Prediction Center says Critical conditions could significantly impact active or new fire starts on Monday. Winds sustained of 20-30 mph will exist for several hours this afternoon. An area of dry thunderstorms is also expected in southeast Oregon.
The record daily high for July 14 and 15 is 103, both set in 1941.
Temperatures begin to return to more seasonal conditions as the weekend arrives.
Note: The Heat Advisory replaces the Extreme Heat Watch that was issued on Thursday.
