Severe weather in Charlotte counties causes flash flooding, power outages, and airport delays.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Severe weather brought heavy rain and lightning to multiple counties in the Charlotte area.
While Mecklenburg County has not seen many impacts from the storms, Catawba, Iredell, Lincoln, and Caldwell counties, among others, saw flash flooding and downed trees and powerlines.
The WCNC Charlotte Weather Impact Team issued a Weather Alert in response to the severe weather. Brad Panovich tracked the storms on Live Weather Impact on WCNC+
Heavy rain could produce isolated amounts of 1 to 3 inches across multiple days. There will be an isolated severe storm risk that could produce 60 mph winds.
Flash flooding will be the highest concern. These storms will be slow-moving, ranging from 10 to 20 mph, which could allow the same areas to get higher peak totals. Right now, the highest three-day totals are 4-5 inches of rain, but some isolated cases could pass that potential.
The storms have also caused issues at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, with over 400 delays and 90 cancelations for travelers.
