Selling Sunset‘s Emma Hernan is setting the record straight on those claims about her boyfriend, Blake Davis.
During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Emma, 33, acknowledged how her relationship with Blake affected her friendship with costar Chrishell Stause, saying, “It was one of those things where I really was holding on to a friendship with Chrishell and worried about what other people thought. It came to the point where I was like, ‘This is the person that I care about.’”
Emma recalled worrying too much about outside opinions as her relationship with Blake progressed.
“I have enjoyed my time with him and I couldn’t keep worrying about what other people say or who they want me to be with. Ultimately I have to follow my heart and even if I have to learn the hard way, this is somebody that I’m choosing to be with,” she explained. “Everyone can say what they want — or they can either love him or hate him. But ultimately, it’s my choice who I end up with.”
Emma Hernan‘s off-and-on romance with Blake Davis was a major story line on season 9 of Selling Sunset — but who is her boyfriend? Selling Sunset, which premiered in 2019, follows employees at high-end Los Angeles real estate brokerage the Oppenheim Group. Emma joined the cast in season 4 when her connection with Peter Cornell […]
After filming the season 9 reunion, Emma chose not to hide her romance with Blake, adding, “A few of the girls were like, ‘If that’s your man, then say that’s your man. Just own it. No one can dictate who you can or can’t be with.’ So I decided I am going to be open to this relationship and not be ashamed of my best friend not liking him. If it works, it works and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. But I don’t want to have any regrets that I cared what other people thought when I did enjoy my time with him.”
Emma’s personal life was a major topic of conversation when Selling Sunset returned to Netflix on Wednesday, October 28. Throughout season 9, Chrishell, 44, made it clear she wasn’t a fan of Emma’s boyfriend before they called it quits.

Off screen, however, Emma appeared to be back together with Blake — and no longer friends with Chrishell. Before the season premiered, Chrishell offered a glimpse at what caused the falling out, accusing Blake on social media of using a racial slur and mocking pronouns.
“He did not say that pronouns were dumb. He would never say that. He accidentally said ‘wife’ [about Chrishell’s partner, G Flip]. When he said ‘wife,’ I told him and I explained it, and it was the first time he was learning about it and he was trying to be good,” Emma told Us, defending her boyfriend. “This was also two years ago. This wasn’t like a recent thing. This was two years ago and I corrected him, because I knew I wanted to be sensitive. I’m super sensitive about the situation, so I corrected him and he said, ‘Oh, my bad. We’re from the south and we don’t really do it there.’ That’s exactly what was said.”
Emma continued: “It rubbed Chrishell the wrong way, and she’s protective of G and she’s an amazing person, so I don’t blame her for that. But he didn’t mean anything by it. He did not say pronouns are dumb or [were] stupid. I was right there.”
Despite the animosity between Chrishell and Blake, Emma still has hope they can all “have a conversation” in the future.
“It’s one of those things with their personalities where they just will never see eye to eye. They are on two ends of the spectrum in the sense where she doesn’t appreciate certain things that he does and he doesn’t appreciate certain things that she does. Unfortunately, I am in the middle,” Emma said. “There was a point where I loved them both so much. My ideal situation is for my best friend and my boyfriend to love each other. It was the hardest on me because it was really difficult to watch. I didn’t want to make a choice because I really wanted it to work with both.”

Emma is choosing to focus on the positive — starting with her relationship.
“I would definitely move to the East Coast [with him]. He would need to propose for me to do that,” she quipped. “He has not [proposed yet]. I put my whole life out there this season. I really wanted the audience to just see me and who I am and being vulnerable and seeing the real relationship that I was in.”
Selling Sunset is currently streaming on Netflix.
