Claims surfaced from O Jogo this morning that the Canaries were ‘about to make a move’ for Topic, and it’s understood that they are interested in the 24-year-old.
Sporting director Ben Knapper and head coach Liam Manning want to bolster their ranks at the base of the engine room this summer, with talks held over Silkeborg’s Pelle Mattsson.
City are only expected to enter the market for one player in the position, however, meaning any deal for Topic would likely cancel out the possibility of signing the Dane.
The clubs have been engaged in talks for weeks about Mattsson, whose status as a target goes back beyond the start of the summer. He missed a 3-1 friendly win over Thisted on Saturday, although no agreement has been reached with Norwich.
Portuguese reports suggest that Famalicao president Miguel Ribeiro is braced for an approach from Knapper for Topic in the coming days. Midfield is among the ex-Arsenal loans manager’s priorities at present, alongside an addition at left wing.
The four-cap Serbian international played 34 times for Fama last season, scoring once. Before joining them in 2023 for a reported €1million he came through the academy at FK Vojvodina in Novi Sad, where he was born.
Manning confirmed that further business was expected after his charges beat Northampton Town 3-1 in their first pre-season game, saying: “It’s constant. We’re working hard behind the scenes to add, and there are still a few faces I think we need to add, and we will add.
“We’ll keep pushing on that and make the squad as strong as we can.”
Norwich have already signed seven senior players including former Sporting goalkeeper Vladan Kovacevic, who was on the bench for a 3-0 win over Topic and Famalicao in September last year.
They also sold top scorer Borja Sainz to Portuguese giants Porto, agreeing a £14.25million sale that was completed over the weekend.
