LAS VEGAS — Asa Newell scored 18 points to lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 98-80 victory over the Phoenix Suns in the NBA 2K26 Summer League on Sunday at Pavilion.
Newell did most of his work in the second half, as he had just three points in 11 minutes of action after two quarters, while he finished the night with 7-for-9 shooting, including 4-for-5 from deep, to go with a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Hawks had control early in the game, leading 30-17 after one quarter. The Suns were better in the second but could only trim the deficit by one, as the Hawks held a 12-point cushion at the break. The Suns kept the pressure on in the third and continued to cut into the difference, making it a six-point game entering the final frame. Nonetheless, the Hawks retook command in the fourth by turning up the defense and limiting the Suns to just 14 points the rest of the way.
In addition to Newell, the Hawks had four more players score in double figures, including Jacob Toppin, who had 15 points, eight rebounds and a steal, and Nikola Đurišić, who racked up 16 points, two rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block.
The Suns were led by Oso Ighodaro, who stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. Koby Brea followed up with 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal, while Yuri Collins chipped in 12 points, four rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block.
