The audience at the Italian premiere of the classic 1954 corruption movie On the Waterfront had to say arrivederci to star Marlon Brando — who stormed out of the theater when he realized that his distinctive voice for the role of ex-boxer Terry Malloy had been dubbed by a local actor.

Instead of sticking around to hear the Italian version of “I coulda been a contender,” he reportedly fumed: “Get me out of here. I’m an actor, not a ventriloquist’s dummy,” adding that he felt “like a goddamn freak in a sideshow.”
Nevertheless, Brando won his first Oscar for the role, and he attended the ceremony in person to say grazie.
