Lynden Gooch: Huddersfield Town sign former Stoke City defender

Huddersfield Town have signed former Stoke City right-back Lynden Gooch on a three-year deal.

The USA international was released by the Potters at the and of his contract last month and has become the Terriers’ ninth signing of the summer window.

Gooch was born in California but joined the Sunderland academy at 16 and went on to play 246 games for the Black Cats, 11 of them in the Premier League.

He was part of the team which suffered successive relegations in 2017 and 2018 but also played a part in Sunderland’s return to the Championship in 2021-22.

He signed for Stoke for an undisclosed fee in 2023 and his last season at the club was hit by injury, which reduced him to 23 appearances.

Huddersfield manager Lee Grant told the club website, external: “Lynden is another important addition to the squad, bringing us quality and strong competition at right-back.

“Despite offers to stay in the Championship, he has bought in to our vision and ambition, and I’m looking forward to seeing him contribute to our collective goals.

“His experience will be invaluable both on and off the pitch for the group, and he’s another player who knows how it feels to not only be promoted from this league, but the hard work and dedication it requires to get there.”
