Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka on course to overtake Venus Williams on all-time WTA prize-money list

Venus Williams looks set to lose her long-standing second place on the list of WTA career prize money leaders with Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka closing in on her total.

Serena Williams has long topped the all-time list for prize money earnings and her record of $94,816,730 is not under threat in the immediate future, but the older Williams sister will likely drop down the list before the 2025 season is out.

Five-time Grand Slam winner Swiatek is currently eighth in terms of most money earned from prize money during her very short career as she had accumulated $36,372,498 before the start of Wimbledon.

Her big rival and reigning world No 1 Sabalenka is one place behind her as she sits on $36,082,811, but both are assured of moving up after the grass-court Grand Slam. If either of go on to win the title, they will surge into the top five.

WTA Career Prize Money Leaders

1. Serena Williams – $94,816,730
2. Venus Williams – $42,648,578
3. Simona Halep – $40,236,618
4. Maria Sharapova – $38,777,962
5. Victoria Azarenka – $38,532,860
6. Petra Kvitova – $37,454,150
7. Caroline Wozniacki – $36,441,868
8. Iga Świątek – $36,372,498
9. Aryna Sabalenka – $36,082,811

Sabalenka has already booked her place in the semi-final at Wimbledon and she is guaranteed to earn another £775,000 ($1,051,288) so her prize money earnings will rise to $37,134,099 and she will rise to No 7 with Caroline Wozniacki dropping two spots.

Swiatek is yet to complete her quarter-final match so for now she will add £400,000 ($542,600) after Wimbledon and will move up to $36,915,098 and for now that will keep her in eighth place.

However, if the Pole wins her last-eight clash and joins Sabalenka in the semi-final at SW19, her earnings will rise to $37,423,786 and she will be in seventh with Sabalenka eighth and Wozniacki ninth.

If either Swiatek or Sabalenka go on to win the title, they will surge up the list as the Wimbledon singles champion will walk away with a cheque of £3,000,000 ($4,069,500).

Swiatek will jump to No 3 ahead of Simona Halep as her fortune will grow to $40,441,998 ($36,372,498 + $4,069,500). Sabalenka, meanwhile, be fourth with $40,152,311.

But there is no doubt that either Swiatek or Sabalenka will overtake the great Venus Williams in the coming months, especially with several big tournaments, including the US Open and WTA Finals still to come.

Coco Gauff is the other active player who is looking to break into the top 10 in the near future as the American is currently 12th, having earned $27,144,216.

She won’t move up after Wimbledon following a first-round exit, but the reigning French Open champion will no doubt jump a couple of places before the year is out.

Gauff earned $9,353,847 in prize money during the 2024 season with the bulk of that coming from her title run at the WTA Finals where she secured a record-breaking $4.8m cheque.

Sabalenka, though, topped the list in 2024 with $9,729,260.
