EXCLUSIVE: Comedian friends (or archenemies?) Hasan Minhaj and Ronny Chieng on Tuesday morning announced Hasan Hates Ronny | Ronny Hates Hasan, their first joint tour, which will see them traversing North America this fall.
A description of the tour notes that during these divided times, many people believe that open dialogue and discourse are the only tools to mend a wounded nation… Minhaj and Chieng, however, believe the opposite.
Kicking off this October, the two comedians will embark on a nationwide tour where they will air their grievances — onstage, at the same time — for a paying audience. The format? A Debate to the Death. Imagine a version of CNN’s Presidential Townhall that’s somehow more demented and with less decorum. This will be a race to the bottom.
On stage, Minhaj and Chieng will face off about America’s most urgent issues: Presidents, War, the Economy, Immigration, Infrastructure, Food, Dating, Family Values, and of course, the impending Race War. This is not a call for peace. It’s a call for pettiness. Are you in? (Check out a list of dates below.)
In a statement to Deadline on the tour, Minhaj said, “I’m not giving you a pull quote saying how excited I am. I’m not excited, I detest Ronny Chieng and I resent his career.”
Retorted Chieng, “I hope after this show people can finally stop listening to this uneducated fraud.”
Tickets go on sale on Wednesday at 10 a.m. local time.
Coming off multiple appearances at L.A.’s Belly Laughs Comedy and Food Festival, Minhaj is best known for his breakout Netflix special Homecoming King and his critically acclaimed political satire show Patriot Act With Hasan Minhaj for Netflix which won a Peabody, an Emmy, and a Television Academy Honor. Subsequently putting out the specials The King’s Jester and Off with His Head — both also for Netflix — Minhaj is also behind the ongoing digital series and podcast, Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know, where he sits down with the biggest names in politics, culture, and tech with questions that are as thought provoking as they are absurd. A former Daily Show correspondent who headlined the 2017 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, he’ll soon be seen starring in Disney’s Tron: Ares and is represented by WME and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
An Emmy-winning stand-up and actor who is currently a senior correspondent on The Daily Show, Chieng also has three specials on Netflix, including the recently released Ronny Chieng: Love to Hate It, which was named the New York Times’ 2024 Comedy Special of the Year. As an actor, select credits include Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Crazy Rich Asians, Universal’s M3GAN, Disney+’s American Born Chinese and Doogie Kameāloha, M.D., Hulu’s Vacation Friends 2, and Lionsgate’s Joy Ride. Upcoming, he’ll be seen starring in Peacock’s The Miniature Wife. Also recently announced as voicing the character of Khan in the King of the Hill revival for Hulu, he is repped by Artists First, Independent Artist Group, and Cohen & Gardner.
