Brewers closer Trevor Megill on his addition to the all-star team
Brewers closer Trevor Megill was a late addition to the National League all-star team, his first such selection
The flood of All-Star Game replacements continued July 11, and a familiar name for Brewers fans learned he was getting his first nod in the Midsummer Classic.
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen, a player drafted by Milwaukee and dealt to the Rays in the Willy Adames trade in 2021, will replace Angels left-hander Yusei Kikuchi on the active American League roster
Rasmussen signed a two-year contract extension in January with the Rays, and he’s been excellent, posting a 2.82 ERA in 18 starts with a 1.007 WHIP. He owns a career ERA of 2.93 and has been highly effective throughout his career, but injuries have also kept him sidelined for chunks at a time.
He twice had Tommy John surgery during his time at Oregon State, which is partially why he was still available when the Brewers drafted him in the sixth round back in 2018. Rasmussen had another major elbow procedure in 2023. He debuted as a reliever in 2020, appearing in 12 games, then returned in 2021 as a reliever before getting dealt along with J.P Feyereisen to the Rays in exchange for Adames and Trevor Richards in May of 2021.
That deal paid off for the Brewers. Richards was later sent to Toronto in the exchange for Rowdy Tellez, and Adames became a linchpin for the Brewers through the 2024 season, after which he left in free agency for San Francisco.
Adames, by the way, has returned to form for the Giants after an ugly start to his season. Since the start of July, Adames has a 1.057 OPS and .344 batting average, and it’s an even .900 OPS dating back to June 10.
For the season, Adames has a .22 average, 11 homers and a .675 OPS.
