As some familiar faces leave the Dallas Stars in free agency, general manager Jim Nill is bringing another back into the fold on Tuesday.
The Stars signed center Radek Faksa to a three-year contract worth $2 million annually, a person familiar with the deal confirmed to The Dallas Morning News.
The 31-year-old center spent his entire NHL career in Dallas until he was traded to St. Louis last offseason for future considerations to free some cap space.
Faksa just completed the final year of a five-year contract worth $3.25 million annually he signed with the Stars in October 2020.
Sports Roundup
The 30-year-old center spent his entire NHL career in Dallas after he was drafted 13th overall in 2012 before the trade to St. Louis. Across nine NHL seasons with the Stars, he played over 600 games and recorded exactly 200 points.
Faksa appeared in 70 games with the Blues this year, recording five goals and 10 assists.
The Czech forward is skilled in the face-off circle and on the penalty kill. He will be a key depth piece for the Stars, likely centering their fourth line.
The Stars also re-signed forward Colin Blackwell, putting most of their focus Tuesday on their depth forwards.
His $2 million cap hit puts the Stars over the limit. Dallas is allowed to exceed the cap by 10% in the offseason but must be cap compliant in their season-opening roster.
