Coronation Street star has recast one of the members of the Platt family as the character made their first appearance on-screen with a new face.
It’s not unusual for character’s faces to change over the years, with new actors brought in to play existing roles, particularly when younger and growing up in front of viewers’ eyes.
The latest is Lily Platt, the daughter of David Platt and his late wife, Kylie. She has been played by several actors since the character was born in 2013.
Lily was first played by twins Ava and Lilly Bushell from her birth in August 2013 until August 2014, before Betsie and Emmie Taylor took over the role from September 2014 until May 2016.

It was then in the same year that Brooke Malonie was brought in to take on the role of Lily. But she’s now left, with Grace Ashcroft-Gardner now playing the youngster.
She was seen for the first time in the role during Monday’s (July 14) episode of Corrie. In dramatic scenes, following news that his family are falling apart and Lou Michaelis is in trouble, Mick broke out of prison and desperately demanded his kids are handed over as he plans to do a runner with his family.
It is then over at the school, Daniel Osbourne and Mrs Crawshaw are shocked to come face to face with Mick, who tells them he wants his daughter, Joanie. In the meantime, Lily was among the school’s students who were quick to hide in fear of Mick.
Mrs Crawshaw explains that Sally Metcalfe picked Joanie up, and so Mick locks them in the office and does a runner. As Sally offers Joanie a tour of the factory while the girls are at the pub, Mick heads to the street, closely followed by DC Kit Green.
With Lily now played by a new actress, Corrie fans were quick to notice and shared comments on social media. On Reddit, one fans said: She has been recast. How do you feel about that? I think Brooke did well, hopefully the character won’t become horrible. She’ll turn 12 next month. This is her second recast, although she was 2 the first time.”

Another replied: “Had a feeling this would be the case, in the new Platts house there was a picture of Max and David, but this was the same picture that included Lily when Shona looked in his wallet in the hospital a few months back. I liked Brooke as although she didn’t get her own stories any scene she was in I couldn’t fault her acting, best wishes to her for the future.”
A third shared: “They have probably got some big storylines coming up for her.” A fan also wrote on Facebook: “To avoid confusion on tonight’s episode (Monday) there has been a recast for the character of Lily Platt in Coronation Street. Brooke Malonie, who previously played Lily for 9 years has been replaced by Grace Ashcroft-Gardner.”
On X, a fifth fans shared: “A new actress playing Lily then I see she hasn’t been on screen for ages. #corrie.” Another asked: “When did they slip a new Lily in? #corrie.”
It’s not the first recast to take place in Corrie this year. It was earlier this year that James Bailey returned to Weathefield, this time played by Jason Callender.
As fans know, James is the youngest son of Ed and Aggie Bailey, and brother of Michael and Dee-Dee. Ed, Aggie and their two sons first arrived on the Street back in 2019 before Ed’s brother, Ronnie, followed in 2021.
It wasn’t until 2022 that Corrie viewers got to meet the much-talked-about Dee-Dee, the hot-shot solicitor who had been living and working in America.
James left Weatherfield in 2022, after the Weatherfield County footballer had collapsed while playing a local match with the Rovers Return and was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, causing him to be dropped from the squad.
He then took a job as a coach at a youth centre in Lewisham, leading to his exit from Weatherfield. But he returned to the cobbles in March, and has since become the adoptive father of Dee-Dee’s daughter, Laila.
