Veteran Sky Sports News reporter Alan Myers has announced his exit from the channel after a remarkable 23-year tenure. Having shared his plans to step down in May, Myers is well-known for his comprehensive coverage across the North West and North East, frequently reporting on Manchester City, Newcastle, Liverpool, and Everton.
Myers’ departure is part of a wider shakeup at Sky Sports this summer, with several other figures also moving on. On June 30, he expressed his gratitude and excitement for the future via social media, stating: “Last day at Sky Sports News today! Always difficult leaving the safety of what you know but change is something to embrace, as they say ‘don’t lose tomorrow by reaching back for yesterday’ it’s been a total pleasure working at Sky, now for new challenges as a freelance Journalist.”
Colleagues and fans flooded to send their good wishes, including words of support from Sports Sky legend Chris Kamara who commented: “Good luck to you Alan”. As the Premier League season drew to a close, Myers took to his social media platforms to confirm his departure, reflecting on his time at the channel, reports the Mirror.
“After a 23 year association I have decided to leave @SkySportsNews,” Myers posted. “The Channel has given me so many great moments, some tough days too but most importantly many great friends and colleagues. It’s been an absolute privilege to be a part of the journey, and what a journey it was!”.
Reflecting on his journey from joining in 2002 to the present day, Myer shared: “I want to say a huge thank you to all of those that have helped me from when I joined in 2002, right up to today, and there’s still a couple of big stories to cover for me in my final weeks.
“SSN has taken me to over 30 countries, World Cup finals, ECL finals and so much more, places as far and wide as Indian to Israel to South Africa, I’ve been so privileged. So many great stories I’ve been lucky to work on and people I’ve been lucky to interview, and of course work with some amazing colleagues #blessed.”

Myer’s social media post was accompanied by pictures of some of his most memorable moments working for Sky. These included a notorious meeting with Tom Hicks, the former Liverpool owner, as well as photos with boxing promoter Don King and one from Michael Owen’s 2005 unveiling at Newcastle United.
Myer is the latest in a string of prominent departures from Sky Sports. Following Jeff Stelling’s exit at the end of the 2022/2023 season, he joins a growing list of departures, including Geoff Shreeves, Martin Tyler and Bianca Westwood.
Kamara departed from his position on Soccer Saturday in May 2022, having spent 24 years on the show. Nevertheless, Sky insists that the extensive cuts weren’t implemented as a cost-cutting measure.
A representative from Sky Sports News stated: “We’ve shared proposals with the Sky Sports News team to change how we’re structured, aimed at making us more agile and better equipped to serve audiences across TV, digital and social. A small number of roles are impacted, and we are now entering a period of consultation with those colleagues.”
