Carl Frampton’s honest Terence Crawford vs Canelo Alvarez prediction, which left fans ‘laughing’

Carl Frampton believes his two-year-old prediction of Terence Crawford vs Canelo Alvarez is still correct today.

Before talk of a super-showdown, Crawford was delivering the greatest performance of his career against an outmatched Errol Spence Jr.

In that year, Canelo was outclassing Jermell Charlo, whose tactics Keith Thurman wants paired with Floyd Mayweather’s for Terence to beat the Mexican on September 13th.

Now, as both prepare for the biggest boxing event of this year, all the boxing experts have come out in force to put their necks on the line.

Carl Frampton felt he was ‘laughed’ at for backing Terence Crawford to beat Canelo Alvarez two years ago

One such name is Frampton, who believes he was one of the first to hop on board the ‘Bud’ train in 2023.

In an interview with Pro Boxing Fans, the Irish fighter explained: “I think Crawford wins, I said it when he beat Errol Spence, and everybody laughed at me. I said it that long ago.

“I genuinely believe Crawford wins.”

The former two-weight world champion is a massive fan of the Omaha fighter’s skills, but he admitted the fight with Saul Alvarez may not live up to the excitement.

Frampton continued: “I think it is a great fight, might not be the best fight in the world to watch for Crawford to win, it will have to be a boring fight.

“I think Canelo’s fights are now slower than they used to be.”

His reference to the most recent performances of the super middleweight star includes the much-disliked William Scull fight, which broke the record for the fewest combined punches thrown over 12 rounds.

Terence Crawford vs Canelo Alvarez undercard planned for an unprecedented multi-day event

Even if the main event doesn’t deliver the entertainment factor, the organisers are already planning a bumper undercard.

A difference with this event is the length of the card, apparently lasting over multiple days.

In an interview, Turki Alalsheikh provided his extraordinary plans for the Netflix show.

“The undercard will be between two or three days,” he said.

“We now have more than 20 fights to do on the undercard. Ninety-five percent of this card is talent, and people around the world have a very big chance to be a star in the future.”

Already, he has looked at getting Jarrell Miller and Jared Anderson to clash on the main card in what has been dubbed ‘The Battle of the Babies’.

No other bouts have been confirmed as of yet, but talent like Hamzah Sheeraz, who some fans have backed to beat Canelo, and Junto Nakatani have been explored.

UFC President Dana White is leading the event, which could be one of the greatest spectacles in boxing history.

On that stage, one man in the main event will want to put on a spectacular performance to cement his legacy.
