After losses in four of their last five games, the trajectory of the Cleveland Browns are trending downward heading into a Week 10 game against the New York Jets. As a result, former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason is starting to doubt whether head coach Kevin Stefanski has a future in Cleveland past 2025.
Stefanski has been questioned at every turn this season when it comes to the Browns’ starting quarterback situation in 2025. Whether it be benching Joe Flacco, later trading him to a division rival, or deciding to start Dillon Gabriel over Shedeur Sanders, a portion of the Browns fanbase has been critical of how Stefanski has handled his quarterback room.
The team’s poor results both this season and in 2024 haven’t helped matters. Now, Stefanski is tasked with finding a way to turn things around in a hurry with arguably the weakest quarterback room in all of football.

Discussing Stefanski’s future on 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland, Esiason expressed his doubts that the former Coach of the Year will make it past the 2025 season.
“I am a fan of Kevin,” said Esiason. “If he does get fired, I think back to draft day. They got Dillon Gabriel in the third round and we’re all there wondering what’s happening with Shedeur. Now, all of a sudden, you have all of these outside influences distracting your football team. It never works. I would probably lean towards they are going to move away. The longevity of losing. The decisions that have been made. Some of them have not been his fault. I don’t know how they would bring him back.”

Stefanski has done some great things throughout his six-year tenure in Cleveland. In particular, leading the team to the postseason twice is certainly nothing to sneeze at, considering they last reached the playoffs in 2002 prior to his arrival.
That being said, Stefanski and the Browns have won just five of their last 25 games, which simply isn’t good enough regardless of the circumstances.
Given all that he has accomplished, he will likely be given at least the remainder of the 2025 season to potentially save his job. If things continue to go south, Esiason may very well be spot on in his assessment that Stefanski may be looking for a new job elsewhere.
Fortunately, Stefanski and the Browns will face a Jets team on Sunday that just traded their best players at the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday. So maybe a win over New York could help spark some much-needed positive momentum in Cleveland.
