For a third straight game, Boston will face a left-handed starting pitcher. And for the third straight game, right-handed hitter Nate Eaton will lead off.
The Red Sox welcome the Rockies to Fenway Park for the first game of a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
Lefty Austin Gomber (0-1, 5.49 ERA) will start for Colorado opposite Red Sox righty Richard Fitts (0-3, 4.50 ERA).
Wilyer Abreu will start vs. the lefty. He’s in right field and batting seventh. Rob Refsnyder is in left field and batting cleanup.
Eaton is at third base. Romy Gonzalez will play second base and Abraham Toro will play first base.
Gomber started against the Red Sox last July in Colorado. He received a no-decision, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five in 5 ⅔ innings.
No Rockies hitter has ever faced Fitts.
Boston swept the Nationals in D.C. over the weekend and enters this series one game over .500 (46-45).
