Boil advisory now in effect following water outage in Crystal, Golden Valley and New Hope

After a water outage early Sunday morning, residents in Crystal, Golden Valley and New Hope are now under a boil water advisory.

Residents of the three cities, as reported to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS on Sunday morning, said they were unable to get water in their homes and were experiencing low pressure in other areas.

Crystal, Golden Valley and New Hope operate a joint water commission, which manages a water supply, storage and distribution system for the three communities.

According to the city of New Hope, the issues are due to a malfunctioning valve in the Golden Valley water tower, which occured sometime Saturday night.

As work continued on restoring water and pressure to the communities, a boil water advisory was issued for all three cities by the Joint Water Commission.

The water pressure issue has been resolved, but the water will still require approval from the Department of Health before the advisory can be lifted.

In the meantime, the city said residents in Crystal, Golden Valley and New Hope should boil their water before drinking it, using it to brush their teeth, or cooking with it, or use a safe alternative like bottled water until the advisory is lifted.

To ensure the water is safe to use, it should be brought to a rolling boil for one minute to kill bacteria, and then cooled before use.

A statement will be issued when the advisory is lifted.
