Authorities in Maine are searching for a Bentley University professor who was last seen Saturday on Peaks Island, officials said.

Wiley Davi, 57, of Peaks Island, was described by officials as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 155 pounds, with gray hair.

“The Maine Warden Service is concentrating search efforts on the trails and wooded areas of the island, and Maine Marine Patrol is searching the waters along Peaks Island,” the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said Monday.

Peaks Island is a small island off the coast of Portland.

“People are encouraged to stay off the walking trails on Peaks Island today, so as not to interfere with searchers,“ officials said. ”Residents are also encouraged to check any sheds or outbuildings on their property for Davi.”

According to Bentley University’s website, Davi is an English and Media Studies professor who earned a doctorate degree from Tufts University.

“Wiley is a longtime and respected professor and a friend to students, faculty and staff on our campus,” a university spokesperson said Tuesday. “Our hearts and minds are with Wiley, their loved ones, and the first responders who are leading the search, and we are hoping and praying for Wiley’s safe return.

Anyone with information regarding Davi is encouraged to call Portland police at 207-874-8479.
