Music Box Films has acquired the North American distribution rights to “The Summer Book,” starring eight-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close.
Based on Tove Jansson’s beloved novel, “The Summer Book,” director Charlie McDowell’s film adaptation is a meditative and sensitive portrayal of grief and intergenerational bonds between nine-year-old Sophia and her grandmother, played by Close.
The film premiered at BFI London Film Festival and continued screening at AFI Film Festival, Santa Barbara Film Festival, and the Miami Film Festival. Music Box will open “The Summer Book” theatrically on Sept. 19, opening at the Angelika Film Center in New York.
