Lumberjack World Championship to kick off in Hayward

HAYWARD, Wis. (Northern News Now) – The 65th Lumberjack World Championships event starts this week in Hayward.

There are over 100 competitors from seven different countries and 16 different states competing in the Lumberjack World Championships in Hayward.

On Wednesday, the event will open with a concert from a local musician. Then on Thursday, the lumberjack competitions begin.

There will be events like log rolling and speed pole climbing, all competing for over $70,000 in prize money.

Samantha LaSalle, the event director, said that it’s a special event.

“Whether you’ve seen it or you haven’t seen it, it’s just one of those events that kind of just captivated you and keeps you hooked the whole time,” said LaSalle. “The general atmosphere and being out here on the lake is just something that I have never found at another event.”

She also said that they have nearly a 50-50 split of men and women competitors, and it’s the greatest number of women competitors they’ve seen at the event.

Along with the championship, there will be food trucks, vendors and live music from local artists.

They are also hosting a Lumberjack Run 5K on Saturday. You can enter in for a chance to win a free entry into a Birkie event by competing in the 5K in a lumberjack outfit.
