Action icon Jason Statham got the ball rolling in 2025 by starring in A Working Man, the action vehicle directed by David Ayer, but now a forgotten project from the star has become a surprising streaming hit over 10 years later. Statham stars alongside MCU veteran Benedict Wong in Redemption, formerly titled Hummingbird, the action film following a damaged former special forces soldier in London’s criminal underworld who steals another man’s identity. Redemption is streaming for free on Tubi and Pluto TV in the U.S. and on Starz globally, where it’s been one of the top 10 movies on the platform for 74 days. Redemption grossed only $12 million at the box office against a $20 million budget, and it earned “rotten” scores of 49% from critics and 38% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
Steven Knight wrote and directed the script for Redemption, and he famously considered Cillian Murphy for the lead role in the film before ultimately settling on Statham. This also marked the second time in a row Statham played a homeless man in his career after also doing the same in Safe the year before. Redemption served as Knight’s feature directorial debut, and later the same year, he also teamed up with Tom Hardy for Locke, the R-rated psychological thriller currently streaming on Prime Video. Knight has only directed one movie in the 12 years since Redemption and Locke, which was Serenity. Serenity, which premiered in 2019, featured an Interstellar reunion for stars Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway. The mystery thriller following a fishing boat captain facing a dark past is currently streaming on Prime Video, Pluto TV, and even Tubi.
Jason Statham’s New Movie Quietly Arrived on Streaming
Jason Statham’s latest action movie, A Working Man, hit theaters in March and grossed more than double its $40 million budget at the box office. Despite no official announcement, the film recently began streaming on Amazon MGM+, and has quietly become one of the most popular movies on the service in the last few weeks. In addition to Statham, A Working Man also stars David Harbour and Michael Peña. Statham and AWM director David Ayer recently worked together on The Beekeeper, the 2024 action hit that has found consistent streaming success on Prime Video.
Redemption is one of the most popular movies in the world on Starz. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates and coverage of Statham’s future projects.
