The 2025 ATP Los Cabos Open continues on Day 2 with eight exciting first-round matches, involving a lot of local players. This article features #5 seed Daniel Altmaier, who takes on Mitchell Krueger. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate. But which players will advance?
ATP Los Cabos Day 2 Predictions
James McCabe vs Luis Carlos Alvarez
Head-to-Head: first meeting
22-year-old James McCabe will make his debut at the Los Cabos Open, and it will be a tough opener for him against home player, Luis Carlos Alvarez. McCabe got his first Tour-level win this season at the Australian Open but hasn’t won since at this level and will be looking to double his tally. 20-year-old wild card Alvarez is even less experienced and is playing in an ATP Tour main draw match for the first time. He will have the crowd’s support, but it will be a huge task to win against someone ranked much higher.
Prediction: McCabe in 3
Colton Smith vs Govind Nanda
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Colton Smith has done a lot of winning on the Challenger Tour this season and is the heavy favourite to win this match against his compatriot. Govind Nanda is making his Tour-level debut and is ranked outside the Top 400. Smith has already won a hard-court Challenger this season, and I expect him to win this one and get his first hard-court win at this level.
Prediction: Smith in 2

Adam Walton vs Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Australia’s Adam Walton couldn’t get a win during the grass season, but now he is on his preferred surface and will hope for a good start. He has already won three Tour-level matches on hard, and his steady baseline game and experience should help him win against the Mexican, Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez, who reached the quarterfinals in Acapulco, but one of the wins was due to a walkover. I am favoring the Australian slightly in this one.
Prediction: Walton in 3
Daniel Altmaier vs Mitchell Krueger
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Daniel Altmaier has had a decent 2025 season so far and will be looking to further improve it by getting some wins this week. He is the highest seed on Day 2, and his experience at this level is much more than Mitchell Krueger, who has struggled this season. Krueger is primarily a Challenger-level player and will find it hard to win against the German player.
Prediction: Altmaier in 3
