ATP Gstaad Day 1 Predictions Including Dominic Stricker vs Pierre-Hugues Herbert

Main draw action kicks off on Monday at the EFG Swiss Open ATP Gstaad. It’s a good mix of veterans and young talent on the schedule with home crowd favorite Dominic Stricker ending the day’s play on Roy Emerson Arena. Who do you think will advance to the next stage of the event?

ATP Gstaad Day 1 Predictions

Roman Andres Burruchaga vs Dalibor Svrcina

Head-to-head: 1-1

Both players have been mixing amazing results with early losses recently. Dalibor Svrcina is the one who’s come closer to a potential Top 100 debut in 2025 with Challenger titles in Pune and Barletta. But Roman Andres Burruchaga tends to enjoy these quicker clay conditions in Switzerland, making the Zug final last year. His physical style can be tough to handle when the opponents are struggling to control the ball at altitude. Svrcina isn’t that vulnerable to it, but maybe it’s enough to call Burruchaga a small favorite.
Prediction: Burruchaga in 3

Kamil Majchrzak vs Terence Atmane

Head-to-head: First meeting

Kamil Majchrzak’s Wimbledon run came completely out of nowhere after seven losses in a row, but it should fuel the Pole with plenty of self-belief for weeks to come. His game usually translates well to quicker clay conditions as well. We’ll see how quickly he can transition against Terence Atmane, who posted some big wins on the ATP Tour last year but has been mostly focused on Challengers since. It seems like Majchrzak will probably win if he finds a way to handle the serve + forehand firepower of the Frenchman.
Prediction: Majchrzak in 2

Ignacio Buse vs Laslo Djere

Head-to-head: Djere 2-0

Ignacio Buse played his first ATP Tour match as a wildcard in Santiago earlier this year, coming up against Laslo Djere. As it turned out, he was facing the eventual champion with the Serbian producing a run that put him right back into the Top 100 after a period of struggle. A few months later Buse is still developing his game pretty well and recently grabbed his first Challenger title in Heilbronn. But Djere is still the better player of the two and has a good opportunity for a run here.
Prediction: Djere in 2

Arthur Cazaux vs Nikoloz Basilashvili

Head-to-head: 1-1

Nikoloz Basilashvili played the Challenger in Trieste last week after a solid run at Wimbledon, but wasn’t able to recapture that level. The mercurial Georgian is still nicely on the comeback trail this year and is winning matches in events like this for the first time in ages. This looks pretty close though with Arthur Cazaux now fully recovered from the injuries that were troubling him in the spring. On a slightly faster clay court, the Frenchman has some options to keep the ball away from Basilashvili’s strike zone.
Prediction: Cazaux in 3

Dominic Stricker vs Pierre-Hugues Herbert

Head-to-head: 1-1

The recent developments in Dominic Stricker’s career have been tough to watch with an injury that came right as he finally broke the Top 100 and then the mental struggles that followed. But the Swiss had a relatively promising showing at Wimbledon qualifying, losing in the third round to Shintaro Mochizuki (who earlier double-breadsticked Pierre-Hugues Herbert). Perfect it’s just wishful thinking, but a fast clay event at home sounds like a good spot for Stricker to fire back and start recovering his career.
Prediction: Stricker in 3
