Virginia State Police searching for Union head football coach Travis Turner

UPDATE 12:05 p.m. Sunday: A Virginia State Police spokesperson confirms to News Five that an active search is ongoing once again on Sunday for Turner.

UPDATE 11:00 a.m. Sunday: Union High School head football coach Travis Turner has officially been listed as a missing person in the Virginia State Police missing persons database. The database says Turner was last seen on Thursday November 20th. The database also says Turner was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and glasses.

News Five has reached out to the Virginia State Police to see if an active search is once again ongoing on Sunday and is waiting to hear back.

UPDATE 12:10 p.m. Saturday: Virginia State Police has confirmed with News 5 that an active search is underway again Saturday for Union High School head football coach Travis Turner.

UPDATE 4:50 p.m. Friday: Virginia State Police have confirmed with News 5 that an active search is happening in the Appalachia region of Wise County. However, they did not confirm whether this is related to Turner or a separate situation.

UPDATE: Virginia State Police confirmed to News 5 that agents were sent to the residence of 46-year-old Travis L. Turner in Appalachia on Thursday evening.

Turner is the head football coach of Union High School.

Police said this was part of an investigation, but agents went “NOT” to arrest Turner. While on the way, the agents were informed that Turner was no longer at the location.

As of Friday afternoon, Turner has not been found.

The investigation remains ongoing.

A Wise County Schools staff member has been placed on leave, the school system stated Friday.

Here is the statement sent to News 5 by Wise County Schools.

“At this time, a staff member has been placed on administrative leave with pay while an external agency reviews an allegation that was reported to us. This is standard procedure and not a determination of wrongdoing. The division cannot comment further.”

News 5 has left multiple messages with Superintendent Mike Goforth and spoke with multiple school board members. So far, officials have declined to identify the staff member.
