“I love you, my Mother! All honor and glory to your Son!”
This is what Miss Universe Brazil 2025 Maria Gabriela Lacerda wrote in an Instagram post after she dressed as Our Lady during the 2025 Miss Universe National Costume Competition on November 19 in Thailand.
Lacerda, who is Catholic, honored Our Lady of Aparecida, the patroness of Brazil, as an “external sign that reminds me of the commitment I made to Jesus through Our Lady.”

Lacerda also appeared in a video alongside the costume’s designer, Mario Cezar. She sees the costume for the first time and explains her devotion to the Blessed Mother. She says making this tribute to Our Lady and her Catholic faith “is the greatest accomplishment.”
“I am consecrated to Jesus through the hands of Our Lady. I am consecrated to Our Lady of Grace,” Lacerda says. “Because this is an external sign that reminds me of the commitment I made to Jesus through Our Lady.“Being able to carry this woman’s name is so meaningful for our Brazil. I believe it makes me the happiest woman in the world,” Lacerda continues. “I believe that honoring the purest woman that ever walked this earth–the most beautiful and humble woman–and who teaches me so much every day of my life–to have this opportunity to be able to make this tribute to her, to my faith, I think it is the greatest accomplishment of this Miss Universe for me.”
Designer Mario Cezar also reveals that this dress was “one of the most special creations” of his life and considers it “a calling.”
Cezar added that this project transformed his life and the lives of his team members.
“When Gabi first spoke about honoring Our Lady of Aparecida, I felt a shiver. It wasn’t a theme… it was a calling. And from then on, every conversation, every fitting, every handmade detail carried a meaning that went far beyond fashion,” Cezar writes in the Instagram caption. “Working on this project transformed me, and it transformed our team as well.”
