Rebecca Ferguson’s Easy-To-Binge Sci-Fi Masterpiece Stumbles on Streaming Ahead of Season 3

Rebecca Ferguson’s dystopian thriller Silo has been one of Apple TV’s most consistently excellent dramas since debuting in 2023 — but that doesn’t mean audiences are treating it that way. Despite racking up glowing reviews, a 90% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a growing fanbase, the series has now slipped out of Apple TV’s Top 10 ahead of its third season. For a show commonly praised as one of the best sci-fi offerings on streaming, its sudden drop suggests it may be slipping from the casual viewer’s radar… at least for now.

Created by Graham Yost (Justified) and based on Hugh Howey’s bestselling novels, Silo is a slow-burn masterclass in tension, world-building, and existential dread. Set in a massive underground bunker stretching hundreds of stories deep, society’s last survivors live under strict rules — the most important one being: never ask what’s outside. The cast also includes the likes of Tim Robbins, Common, Steve Zahn, and Harriet Walter, with Jessica Henwick and Ashley Zukerman joining for Season 3.

How Good Is ‘Silo’?

Season 2 of Silo took the story in unexpected directions, sharpening the focus from Ferguson to the other characters, expanding its mythology, and deepening its character arcs. It also threw in a shocker of an ending. Collider’s Tania Hussain gave the second season an 8/10, praising its “uniquely immersive environment” and “razor-sharp writing.” She wrote, “By grounding its Orwellian elements into tense yet relatable human struggles, Silo continues to surpass the genre… emerging as a masterful exploration of isolation and survival through Ferguson’s nuanced portrayal.”

“With its 10 episodes this season, the Silo world is truly expanding and the supporting performances amplify so much of the stakes. As teased in the trailer, Steve Zahn as the “new kid on the block” brings a layer of complexity to the situation Juliette is in. Exemplifying a sad and almost heartwrenching portrayal of loneliness with a childlike wonder, the actor is at his absolute best in a barren playground where his character, Solo, creates the rules. It’s the chemistry he shares with Ferguson that creates a dynamic sort of interplay that contrasts her serious demeanor with a spirited and lively approach. He is every bit a compelling counterpart to Juliette, and one we see most terrifically evolve across the series.”

Silo Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming now on Apple TV. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
