Is Texans QB playing against Bills on Thursday?

At 5-5, the Houston Texans are technically still in the thick of the AFC playoff race. But as we get into the stretch run of the 2025 NFL season, they don’t have much margin for error. Any loss from this point forward will feel disastrous. Any win will only increase pressure on Houston to make a real postseason push.

Unfortunately, heading into a huge matchup with the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night, the Texans will still be without their franchise quarterback.

After suffering a concussion in a loss to the Denver Broncos in early November, third-year signal-caller C.J. Stroud will miss his third straight game as he recovers from the injury. A short week probably didn’t help matters here. The Texans, of course, are understandably being cautious with Stroud given the nature of a head injury (and probably the sorry state of their offensive line).

You have to hope he’ll be OK soon:

At the time of his concussion, Stroud had thrown 1,702 yards, 11 touchdowns, and just five interceptions, all while boasting a completion percentage over 66 percent. We’ll see how Houston fares without him once again.

Who is C.J. Stroud’s backup on the Texans?

Davis Mills will play in Stroud’s stead. He has won his last two starts in relief of Stroud, which undoubtedly helped keep the Texans’ season alive.
