MOUNT HOOD NATIONAL FOREST, Ore. (KATU) — The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) says they have recovered the likely remains of Devon Dobek.
On Sunday afternoon, rope rescue teams reached “who they believed is missing hunter Devon Dobek,” CCSO said in a press release. “Official identification will come from the Clackamas County Medical Examiner’s Office.”
The body was found at the base of a cliff near the Fish Creek Campground, officials said on Sunday.
Dobek was reported missing on Oct. 31 after failing to return from a hunting trip in the Mount Hood National Forest.
The search, which was suspended on Nov. 7 after a week of efforts, involved over 4,000 volunteer hours near the Fish Creek Trailhead, where Dobek’s truck was found.

The sheriff’s office described the search area as having “minimal to no cell service” and “steep terrain,” some of which was damaged by the 2020 wildfires.
The search efforts included technical ground teams, helicopters, airplanes, drones with thermal cameras, K9 units, ATVs, and cell phone tracking specialists.

“Crew encountered several downed trees along the evacuation route, so a deputy, three officers from the U.S. Forest Service, and several volunteers worked for ten hours clearing the roadway to get vehicles into a washed-out area of road,” CCSO said.
“Our thoughts remain with Devon’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the sheriff’s office said.

The search involved multiple agencies, including the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue volunteers, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue, Portland Mountain Rescue, and several county sheriff’s offices, among others.
