Country music star Darius Rucker had to cut his performance at the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel short Saturday when the performer couldn’t sing his hit songs.

Rucker began his summer tour earlier this week and the stop in Atlantic City was his third show on his 45-date tour. The tour began July 10 in Virginia and had a stop in Maryland before Rucker and his band took the stage in Atlantic City.

He apologized after his third song when it was clear to the audience his voice was cracking and he was unable to get out the words. “Y’all I can’t sing anymore. I will play one more song. I promise you we’re going to figure this out,” he said. “ … This never happened. I physically can’t sing…I will make this up to you.”

On Sunday, he posted that fans will get a full refund because he could not reschedule the Atlantic City show.

“Thank you so much for coming out Saturday night. I feel awful and I’m so sorry. I have never lost my voice in all my years of performing. We looked at every option to reschedule, but unfortunately, it’s just not possible this year so we’re issuing full refund,” he wrote on Facebook. “The venue will send details to you. Thank you so much for all your kind messages. Wishing me well.  Love y’all and see you soon.”

During the concert, he promised he would “somehow” make it up to fans.

Rucker suggested on stage he would get fans their money back or come back and play another show at another date. He apologized several times and the crowd got on their feet and cheered for the singer.

He ended the abbreviated set with hit “Wagon Wheel” with help from the audience, who were on their feet singing and dancing to help the former Hootie and the Blowfish frontman out.

”It was clear that he was really heartbroken,” said one fan from New Jersey. “I’m sure he’ll be back. It’ll take some time for them to figure it out.”

An email to the hotel on Saturday night was not immediately returned.
