Chris Evans’ Captain Hydra & Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Hold A Major MCU Hero Hostage In Avengers: Doomsday Art

New Avengers: Doomsday art reunites Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to imprison a fan-favorite hero. Downey is confirmed to lead Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast as Doctor Doom. He now plays the main villain of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga after Marvel Studios fired Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors. Evans is not confirmed for the movie.

However, multiple reports claim the Captain America actor will be back in a secret role alongside MCU Peggy Carter actress Hayley Atwell. Evans maintains that he is not in the film, but that has not stopped actors from appearing in Marvel’s slate of projects in the past. Amid rumors of who he could play, a villain has become a popular theory.

On Instagram, @welove__marvel and @70.6ix imagined Chris Evans as Captain HYDRA and Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange as their prisoner in Avengers: Doomsday.

In Marvel Comics, the Secret Empire event saw an evil version of Captain America rise, with reality rewritten so he had always been a HYDRA sleeper agent. In the fan art, Downey’s Doctor Doom uses magic to detain Doctor Strange. In the comics, he is not only powerful with magic but has also become Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme.

Could Chris Evans’ Captain Hydra Join Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom In Avengers: Doomsday?

The Multiverse Allows Marvel To Experiment With Its Cast Of Heroes

While Evans and Marvel have not announced his return for Avengers: Doomsday, it should not be ruled out. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has already confirmed that actors who were not revealed during the Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement live-stream will be in the film. Evans has also already returned to the MCU, playing Johnny Storm in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

With Doctor Doom having to fight the New Avengers, Sam Wilson’s Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Fox’s original X-Men, and more, he will surely need a team of his own. The MCU has already toyed with the Captain HYDRA concept in Avengers: Endgame, where Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers said, “Hail HYDRA,” fooling the evil organization’s sleeper agents at SHIELD.

Our Take On Whether Chris Evans’ Captain Hydra Could Join Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom In Avengers: Doomsday

With the reports that Evans is in Avengers: Doomsday and how Downey is playing Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man, I feel there is a decent chance that Captain HYDRA could be in the movie. That said, the original Captain America is still alive, so Marvel simply de-aging him, as has happened in the comics, is also plausible for Avengers: Doomsday.
