Turkish Airlines‘ ‚6 Continents‘ Challenge Ends Early Likely Due To Higher-Than-Anticipated Participation

Airlines have increasingly been launching new promotions to encourage travel and boost loyalty program engagement. Turkish Airlines rolled out a global offer last month that allowed its Miles&Smiles loyalty members to earn one million bonus miles by flying to six continents within a set timeframe. The campaign, “Route: 6 Continents”, which opened on June 27, was meant to run until late October but has now been closed early.

The airline confirmed today that the promotion has officially ended as of July 8, likely due to high participation. Under the original terms, members needed to book and complete qualifying travel between June 27 and October 27. Following today’s update, only those who purchased at least one eligible ticket by July 8 will remain qualified to earn the bonus miles if they finish their six-continent trips by the deadline.

According to Turkish Airlines, to qualify for the one million mile reward, members will need to complete flights to six continents with the airline by October 27. It is worth noting that only arrival destinations are counted; departure points and transit stops are excluded. All itineraries must begin in or pass through Turkey, and direct intra-regional flights do not meet the requirement.

Additionally, the Route: 6 Continents campaign applies only to flights operated by Turkish Airlines. Codeshare services and partner-operated flights are not eligible. Award tickets, corporate agreements, staff fares, and special passenger categories such as student or medical bookings are excluded. Tickets issued with a promo code also do not qualify.

Furthermore, passengers will need to credit flights to their Miles&Smiles account prior to departure, and no retroactive claims will be accepted. Turkish Airlines confirmed the campaign’s early closure in a statement:

„Thank you for the great interest you have shown in our Route: 6 Continents campaign. In line with recent updates, the campaign has officially concluded as of July 8, 2025. Members who purchased at least one ticket or completed a flight across six continents by July 8, 2025, will retain their eligibility. If these members complete [all their] flights across six continents by October 27, 2025, they will [earn] 1 Million Miles.“

If eligible members complete the six-continent challenge, Turkish Airlines will credit one million bonus miles to their accounts between November 1 and November 15. These miles are not classified as status miles and cannot be used for membership tier upgrades.

The airline’s global reach helped shape the framework of the promotion. Turkish Airlines operates the largest international network of any carrier and, in 2024, set the Guinness World Record for flying to more countries than any other airline. The Star Alliance member currently serves 46 domestic destinations and 240 international destinations across 124 countries.

Over the past decade, it has grown faster than any other airline. Just last year, it added new long-haul routes from its hub at Istanbul Airport (IST) to several major international airports, including Denver International Airport (DEN), Melbourne Airport (MEL), Santiago Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL), and Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD).

In terms of fleet size, data from ch-aviation shows that the airline currently operates 449 aircraft. That number is expected to reach 500 later this year. Looking ahead, the airline’s long-term fleet strategy includes plans to expand to more than 800 aircraft by 2033.

Furthermore, Turkish Airlines is currently offering a separate time-limited promotion targeting travelers from select Balkan markets. The offer applies to one-way economy class tickets from Ohrid, Skopje, and Pristina to Istanbul. Starting fares are listed at $41 (€35) from Ohrid and Skopje, and $35 (€30) for Pristina.

The ticketing period runs through July 15, with eligible travel dates between July 1 and October 15. Passengers will need to book directly through the airline’s website or mobile app. The promotion excludes departures from the three cities between July 26 and September 15 and is not valid for multicity, group, or codeshare bookings.
