The Chase viewers fumed over a contestant’s “staggering” decision on Thursday (July 10).
During the latest episode of the popular ITV quiz show, Karina, Susan, Jacob and Paul teamed up to take on a chaser in the hopes of winning a hefty cash prize.
Karina was quickly eliminated by The Beast, also known as Mark Labbett, with Susan securing £6,000 shortly afterwards. Next up was 21-year-old neuroscience master’s student Jacob, who earned an impressive £6,000 in his cash builder.
“Very good mate, excellent,” a clearly impressed Bradley said after the time ran out.
Mark then tried to tempt Jacob with a high offer of £50,000, but his teammates urged him to stick with the £6,000 he had earned, reports Edinburgh Live.

“£50,000 is tempting and you are a cool customer, but we do really want you back in this seat,” Paul said, while Susan stated that she would be “more than happy” if he went for the £6k.
In a surprising twist, Jacob decided to choose the low offer of £1,000, which left Bradley lost for words.
“One? Wow that was quick,” he said, with Jacob explaining: “I want to get back.”
Mark was slightly more understanding, saying: “Hey, he’s a 21-year-old student. Put a grand in his pocket right now and he thinks he’s rich. Don’t blame him.”

Jacob got through after being four ahead of the chaser, meaning he would have had three goes at £6,000 and two at £50,000.
“You should have backed yourself… Jacob, good job, dude. Well done. £7,000, wow. Should be £12,000 in there, by the way,” Bradley said.
Mark added: “Yeah but absolutely no pressure. When I got the first one right and he didn’t, he’d have been under pressure then,” before the host concluded: “I don’t think he would have been. You don’t come to the cash builder with £6,000 and not be a good player, let me tell you that much.”
However, the audience at home felt differently about Jacob’s game strategy, with many expressing their frustration on X (formerly Twitter).

One viewer commented: “Why has he gone for the low offer? Staggering,” while another said: “Even surprised Brad taking the £1k.”
Another disgruntled fan remarked: “What a disgrace. How can you get £6k in the cash builder and take the £1k?!”
Meanwhile, a fourth person suggested a change in the game rules, saying: “They need to change the rules and not let people take the low offer anymore. It’s so annoying.”
At the end of the episode, Jacob and his fellow contestant Susan reached the final chase, only to be caught by Mark with 41 seconds to spare.
The Chase airs weekdays on ITV1 at 5pm
