CO-OP CITY, The Bronx (WABC) — One person was killed, and six others were injured in a crash involving three vehicles in the Bronx on Friday, according to police.
Authorities say the crash happened at 5:25 p.m. at 2063 Bartow Ave. next to The Mall at Bay Plaza in Co-op City.
Three cars were involved in the crash, including a silver Toyota Avalon driven by a 79-year-old man. Police say the Toyota was traveling westbound on Bartow Avenue when it collided with a black Hyundai Sonata, an Acura RDX and then a light pole. The Hyundai then struck an unoccupied car.
He was taken to Jacobi Hospital where he is expected to be OK, but a 71-year-old female passenger suffered injuries to her head, and died Jacobi Hospital.
A 38-year-old woman driving the Hyundai Sonata, and an 11-year-old boy who was a passenger in the vehicle, were both taken to Jacobi Hospital where they are expected to be OK.
The third car in the crash, a white Acura RDX, was driven by a 34-year-old woman, who was carrying two passengers, a 24-year-old man in the front seat, and a 31-year-old man in the back seat. They were all taken to Jacobi Hospital where they are expected to be OK.
„I saw one lady was out on the ground. They was giving her medical attention, checking her body. She was laid out.,“ said Samuel Cherry.
The sound of the crash caused one eyewitness to jump out of her skin.
„It was a terrible sound — it was a terrible incident that happened,“ said Jennifer.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
