Tennis, Wimbledon 2025 men’s singles final: Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz renew rivalry

Wimbledon 2025 – Carlos Alcaraz lies one win away from third consecutive title aged 22

Alcaraz is continually re-writing history, and should he triumph on Sunday, he would join the likes of Boris Becker and Bjorn Borg as a three-time Wimbledon champion at the age of 22.

The Spaniard has not always done it the easy way at the 2025 edition, going to five sets in Fabio Fognini’s eventual farewell and playing four sets on three occasions. But what stands out about the double defending champion is how quickly he can turn up the heat, play to his absolute peak and deliver under pressure when he is required.

By his own admission, Alcaraz has been improving with each day at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, now on a 24-match winning streak and reaching 20 Wimbledon wins on the bounce in his semi-final victory.

He will have the expectations as the reigning champion and the dominant force on grass – no-one has been able to stop him so far, and now the 22-year-old faces the ultimate test against his rival, friend, and number one player in the world.

“I think the things that we are doing right now, I think, is great for tennis,” Alcaraz said after reaching the final. “For me, it’s sharing the big tournaments with Jannik, I think it is great or just playing in the finals of the tournaments and in final rounds of the tournament.”
