- Edgar Berlanga and Shakur Stevenson each feature on a Ring Magazine fight card in Queens, New York on July 12.
- The event takes place at Louis Armstrong Stadium, marking the venue’s first boxing event.
Edgar Berlanga returns to the spotlight in his hometown, headlining a Ring Magazine card from New York against Hamzah Sheeraz, with Shakur Stevenson’s lightweight title defense against unbeaten contender William Zepeda serving as the chief support.
Berlanga bounced back from his 2024 loss to Canelo Alvarez in March, scoring a first-round knockout, and now turns to another dangerous opponent in Sheeraz, formerly a top middleweight contender fresh off a draw in his first world title fight.
“He’s a basic fighter,” Berlanga said in May. “I’ve been boxing since I was 6 years old. What he brings, I’ve already seen. He’s trained by Andy Lee, I messed up the last fighter, and now I’ll mess up this fighter.”
Stevenson takes on the toughest test of his lightweight title reign in all-action contender William Zepeda, who holds the interim WBC title after two hard fought wins over Tevin Farmer in his last two bouts.
“He’s coming in here to throw as many punches as possible, overwhelm me and try to bully me,” Stevenson said. “I’m not going to let that happen.”
