Blues turn to the bench
NSW in strife. A long way to go as a clearing kick by Munster. on the fourth takes bodies and back to the Maroons. They kick again and NSW survive. NSW come right with their next set – the first time they’ve come right since their early line-breaks targeting Shibasaki.
Queensland offloading coming out of trouble. Their tails are up – that’s a worry.
Spencer Leniu and Stefano Utoikamanu into the middle now. They need some impact.

Try: Blues clock off as Dearden scores
NSW starting to win the post-contact battle, Stephen Crichton in-field and looking for work.
Xavier Coates once again takes a high ball easily and then finds space in behind the kick chase.
The Blues almost shove Rob Toia into touch on the right edge. He gets a pass back in-field and NSW pause. Tabuai-Fidow is there to take it and he takes off, he can’t believe the space he’s got and Tom Dearden looms in support. Try time. Inexplicable by the Blues – their inside defence took a breather and paid the price for it.

Injury: Liam Martin battling
NSW starting to get some good yardage now. Sixty metre gain with their next set but again Xavier Coates is safe under the high ball – why they’re kicking to one of the best aerial exponents in the game, couldn’t tell you.
Harry Grant threatening out of dummy-half. Liam Martin struggling with a hand issue. Picked up in an early collision from the looks of it.

Blues get a dubious penalty, Qld hold strong
Long way to go, but Queensland’s had the better of the first 20 minutes, no question. NSW have the better bench, time to use it.
NSW get a penalty under the high ball – dubious call that one. Shibasaki ruled to have not been playing for the ball… he got a hand to it and a genuine crack at catching it.
The Blues on the attack and Payne Haas with his first offload. Then another carry straight away. Cleary kicks but Coates is safe under the bomb.

Try: Coates opens the scoring
A Queensland break and Brian To’o is immense in defence, making cover tackles out of position. NSW scramble but concede a penalty.
Queensland pressing now, looking dangerous. Four plays in the middle before they swing left. Gehamat Shibasaki shrugs off Zac Lomax as he rushes in – he saw the danger, but he can’t stop it and the play ends with Xavier Coates diving over in the corner. Val Holmes bends the sideline conversion back around superbly, critical two points right there.

Qld’s edge defence has done some work
Pat Carrigan into the game after 14 minutes for Papalii as NSW go again. Queensland’s right-edge defence holding up so far. Cleary sends King at the line. Four metres out. And that edge defence, they rush up and force Luai into a dodgy pass and then a knock-on from To’o. Impressive efforts from the Maroons.

Latrell forces a repeat set
Scrappy play. Queensland’s rushing defence has an Edwards pass bouncing 15 metres behind the play.
Nathan Cleary really getting at the line. Reece Robson goes short-side on the last, Latrell pressing, grubbering and Hamiso has to get his skates on to bat it dead.

Qld are fuss-free, NSW trying things
We go again. First seven minutes – NSW have been more adventurous, but they’ve produced more mistakes too.
No kick pressure on Tom Dearden as he hoofs downfield with his first kick after a tradesman’s set, Papalii taking two carries in that one. Lomax fields the kick on the full.
Isaah Yeo with good leg drive again before NSW bomb down to Tabuai-Fidow. Both teams settling into their work now.

Penalty goal: Crichton clips Capewell high
NSW again with good yardage, Isaah Yeo over the advantage line, then a few offloads. Jarome Luai’s kick is average though, fielded in the in-goal by Val Holmes and it’s a seven-tackle set.
Queensland truck it up the other end. Their first chance and we’re pulled up when Stephen Crichton clips Kurt Capewell high. Penalty. Holmes lines up from 25 or so out, 15 metres in from touch.
Slots it. First points to the visitors.
