LIVERMORE, CA — Livermore police responded to a number of serious crimes on July 4, including a drive-by shooting, a knife assault, and a large fight involving a gun. One 17-year-old has been taken into custody as a result.
Just before 12:30 a.m., officers responded to reports of a large fight involving approximately 30 people near the intersection of Chestnut Street and North I Street, according to the Livermore Police Department. Witnesses reported seeing a man with a gun running toward Chestnut Street and North Livermore Avenue. Officers located the suspect, who ran from the scene. After establishing a perimeter, officers found the suspect hiding in a nearby backyard, along with a discarded handgun.
The suspect, a 17-year-old from Livermore, was arrested on multiple charges and booked into Juvenile Hall. No serious injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
About 30 minutes later in the same area, officers responded to a report of a man assaulted with a knife. The victim had visible injuries, but was uncooperative. No suspect has been identified.
Just before 2 a.m., officers responded to a drive-by shooting on the 300 block of Chestnut Street. A man in his 20s sustained a gunshot wound. He was treated, transported to a nearby hospital, and is expected to survive. No suspect information is being released as of Saturday.
In addition to these three incidents, the department said it received more than 90 fireworks-related calls Friday evening.
