This in Vancouver hockey commentator Irfaan Gaffar, news that the Oilers have traded away Viktor Arvidsson to Boston. “Hearing Viktor Arvidsson has been traded to the Boston Bruins from Edmonton.”
Arvidsson was brought into Edmonton last July 1 with much fanfare, expected to be on a top line with Leon Draisaitl, but that plan fell apart in the playoffs, with Arvidsson falling out of favour with Edmonton coaches.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman seemed less certain of the deal: “Hearing Boston/Edmonton discussing a Viktor Arvidsson deal. We’ll see.”
And TSN’s Pierre LeBrun: “Still pending league trade call but Viktor Arvidsson, who waived his no-trade, going to Boston for a future/mid-round draft pick.”
The Athletic’s Dom Luszczyszyn noted, “Still think Viktor Arvidsson has something to offer in a middle six role. Decent buy low bet for the Bruins.”
And What Chaos hockey podcaster Pete Blackburn said, “This isn’t super exciting but it makes a lot of sense for the Bruins. Could be a good guy to pair with Mittelstadt.”
My take
1. This trade still isn’t confirmed, but Bob Stauffer of Oilers Now seemed confident the Oilers could move out Arvidsson and the last year of his $4 million per season deal. I’m not surprised by that, as I saw Arvidsson as a solid two-way player this year, but one who had bad luck shooting the puck to score.
